Oracle Database Licensing and Pricing

  1. Oracle Database Enterprise Edition – License price for processor is $47,500
  2. Oracle Database Standard Edition 2 – License price for processor is $17,500
  3. Personal Edition – License price per user is $400
  4. Mobile Server – The license price for processor is $23,000
  5. NoSQL Database Enterprise Edition – License price for processor is $10,000

It’s important to note that the license price for each processor is based on the number of cores in the processor. For example, you’ll need to purchase four licenses if you have a processor with four cores. Additionally, the Personal Edition is licensed per named user, meaning each user accessing the software needs a license.

How to Calculate Oracle License Price

Now that you have a better understanding of the different Oracle Database editions and their license prices let’s discuss how to calculate the cost of an Oracle license. To calculate the license price, you need to know the following information:

  1. The edition of the Oracle Database you’re interested in
  2. The number of processors (and cores per processor) you’ll be using
  3. The number of named users who will be accessing the software (if you’re interested in the Personal Edition)

Once you have this information, you can use the Oracle Processor Core Factor Table to determine the core factor for your processor. This table lists the core factor for each processor type and model, and you’ll need to multiply the number of cores in your processor by the core factor to get the number of processor licenses you’ll need to purchase.

For example, if you have a processor with four cores and a core factor 0.5, you’ll need to purchase two licenses (4 cores x 0.5 core factor = 2 licenses).

If you’re interested in the Personal Edition, you must purchase a license for each named user accessing the software.

The Oracle Technology Price List is a crucial tool for anyone purchasing Oracle software. However, navigating it can be difficult, especially when calculating pricing for on-premise software licenses. In this article, we’ll provide a comprehensive guide to the Oracle Technology Price List, including how to calculate pricing for named user plus and Oracle processor licenses.

Named User Plus

Named User Plus is the license fee for one named user. However, it’s important to note that there are always minimum licensing requirements for Oracle software. For example, Standard Edition 2 requires a minimum of 10 Named User Plus per server, while Database Enterprise Edition is core-based and requires a minimum of 25 per Oracle processor definition.

It’s important to remember that when licensing Oracle software, you cannot license Enterprise Edition with 7 Named User Plus. Instead, you’ll need to purchase at least 25 per “Oracle processor,” defined by calculating the core licensing.

Software Update License & Support

The Software Update License & Support field is the annual maintenance fee you’ll pay Oracle. This fee is typically 22% of the license fees. If you receive discounts on your Oracle license purchase, you’ll also receive a discount for annual maintenance.

Oracle Processor License

The Oracle Processor License is the price for one Oracle processor license. However, it’s important to note that Oracle does not calculate one physical processor as one Oracle processor license. There is a license calculation to determine how many Oracle Processor licenses you need.

The Software Update License & Support field works the same way for Oracle Processor Licenses for Named User Plus.

Enterprise Edition Options – License Costs

There are several Enterprise Edition Options, each with a license cost per processor. Here’s a breakdown of the different Enterprise Edition Options and their license costs:

  1. Multitenant – License price for processor is $17,500
  2. Real Application Clusters – License price for processor is $23,000
  3. Real Application Clusters One Node – License price for processor is $10,000
  4. Active Data Guard – License price for processor is $11,500
  5. Partitioning – License price for processor is $11,500
  6. Real Application Testing – License price for processor is $11,500
  7. Advanced Compression – License price for processor is $11,500
  8. Advanced Security – License price for processor is $15,000
  9. Label Security – License price for processor is $11,500
  10. Database Vault – License price for processor is $11,500
  11. OLAP – License price for processor is $23,000
  12. TimesTen Application-Tier Database Cache – License price for processor is $23,000
  13. Database In-Memory – License price for processor is $23,000

The Oracle Technology Price List includes several options for Database Enterprise Management, Integration Costs, and RDB Server products in addition to Oracle Database products. Here’s a breakdown of each option and its licensing costs.

Database Enterprise Management – License Costs

  1. Diagnostic Pack – License price for processor is $7,500
  2. Tuning Pack – License price for processor is $5,000
  3. Database Lifecycle Management Pack – License price for processor is $12,000
  4. Data Masking and Subsetting Pack – License price for processor is $11,500
  5. Cloud Management Pack for Oracle Database – License price for processor is $7,500

To calculate the cost of 200 Named User Plus licenses for Real Application Clusters, you would multiply 200 x $460 = $92,000 in license fees. The support fees would be 200 x $101.20 = $20,240. Therefore, the total fees to be paid to Oracle would be $112,240.

For the Data Masking and Subsetting Pack, only the users of the database servers where masked data or data subsets originate must be licensed.

Integration Costs & Products

  1. Database Gateway for Sybase – License price for processor is $17,500
  2. Database Gateway for SQL Server – License price for processor is $17,500
  3. Database Gateway for Informix – License price for processor is $17,500

In summary, understanding the licensing costs for Oracle Middleware products is essential for assessing whether the cost of Oracle software is worth the value it brings. By reviewing the information in this article and the Oracle Technology Price List, you can better understand the cost structure of Oracle Middleware licensing and pricing.

Understanding Verrazzano Enterprise Container Platform Subscription and Mobile Suite Technology

Verrazzano Enterprise Container Platform Subscription Verrazzano Container Platform is an enterprise-level platform licensed per processor and only available as an annual subscription. There is no perpetual license available for purchase.

To license the Verrazzano Enterprise Container Platform, you must count all the processors in the nodes in the Kubernetes clusters where Verrazzano images are pulled when determining the number of subscriptions required. If any Kubernetes node is a virtual machine, then the number of processors on that node is subject to the guidelines documented in the Oracle Partitioning Policy. However, nodes in a dedicated Verrazzano Admin cluster that is not used for running managed workloads can be excluded from the count of processors that require a subscription.

The Verrazzano Enterprise Container Platform Annual Subscription is defined as the right to use the specified program by the applicable license metric and to receive Oracle Software Update License & Support services for the subscription period specified on the ordering document. At the end of the subscription period, you may renew your subscription at the then-current fees for the applicable subscription. If you choose not to renew your subscription, your right to use the program will terminate, and you must de-install all software provided to you.

Mobile Suite Technology – License Costs

Mobile Suite is a suite of mobile application development tools that includes Mobile Suite Client Runtime. It is licensed per processor, while Mobile Suite Client Runtime is licensed per named user plus. A license is also applied per application developed.

To license Mobile Suite Technology, you apply a Processor license for Mobile Suite, and then the clients are licensed per named user plus. The end users of each Developed Application must be counted for the purposes of determining the number of licenses required, regardless of the choice of the mobile application development tool or framework used to build the Developed Application.

In summary, understanding the licensing costs for Verrazzano Enterprise Container Platform Subscription and Mobile Suite Technology is important for assessing whether the cost of these Oracle products is worth the value they bring. By carefully reviewing each product’s Oracle pricing and licensing guidelines, you can determine the appropriate licensing metrics and count required to license each product effectively.
